Trying to define Inner Power Yoga, I have to look at it in comparison to my other yoga trainings–it is very unique. To me, IPY comes back to the Spanda Kriyas and the Four Cores. In her incredibly vast and comprehensive materials, Shakti teaches that, like in every posture, we continuously can apply the same reliable actions to find a balance of both stability and grace in day-to-day life: root to rise, integration, expansion, and circling.
Inner Power is about acknowledging and understanding our human existence by rooting both into the earth and into our past in order to liberate ourselves from any delusion or attachments to what that might mean, so that we can open ourselves to our true potential.
The Four Cores link us to our innate nature and tendencies, our will power and ability to choose, our connection to others, and the feeling of aliveness that comes when all of these things effortlessly align.
Shakti's training guides us in how to see, honor, and then own our individual strengths and expand out into our communities and the world in order to make a difference. IPY teaches that both in yoga and in life we are continually given opportunities to make ourselves open, receptive, and vulnerable, but not without our roots or that seed of centered stillness. We always build from basic to infinite--we always go from the ground up. That in itself is empowering. So whether it is a posture or life-challenge we are facing, it becomes about our willingness to see the situation as it truly is physically, psychically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Each pose, as we root to rise, integrate, expand, and circle becomes a potential metaphor for all experiences on earth.
And THAT is Tantra!
In the end, we truly understand--not just in theory, but in our bodies and breath and relationships and lives--how to find the pulse of infinite in every.single.moment. Life and movement become full of joy, wonder, and delight. We become the Warriors of Beauty. We become the Soldiers of Truth. We become.
And as profound and amazing as that all of this is, it is also a very helpful and practical yoga-alignment and life tool!
Inner Power Yoga empowers us as individuals and perpetuates a yoga movement at large. Deeply rooted in Tantra, myth, anatomy, psychology--it is woven together to magically feel BALANCED.
I can say with confidence that anyone who undergoes this training leaves with more steadiness and more ease–in their body, yoga practice and teaching as well as in their heart-mind. That to me is a great place to begin as a teacher! Personally speaking, it is also great place to *continue as an experienced teacher. Despite teaching for over a decade, I had no idea the Inner Power I was missing until I went through this training and got my dose of Shakti!
Gratefully, my life is forever changed.
